This is an easy cute gift to make. You'll need a hot laminator
OR a full size cold laminator (to hold an 8.5 wide sheet of cardstock),
OR clear contact paper (the latter was not tested for this tutorial).
Create your layout with a lot of blank space on it to write on.

Print your design on 8.5 x 11 white cardstock. Some inkjet photo
papers cannot withstand high temperatures, so if you are using
a hot laminator stick to the cardstock only. Photo paper can be
used with cool laminators just fine. It's a good idea to put two
cardstocks back to back and you can even print a "made with
love by" note on the back one if desired, before laminating.
The hot laminator uses clear pre sized sleeves; insert the pages
back to back into the sleeve and run through the laminator. A
cool laminator such as the Xyron 900 has the laminate loaded in
a cartridge so you simply turn the crank. Either will produce
a satisfactory surface to write on with a dry erase pen, available
cheaply at office supply stores. Use a tissue or paper towel to
wipe off the ink. Do NOT use Sharpie or other permanent pens,
but if you make an error (or your child gets loose with such a
pen), some permanent ink can be removed with isopropyl alcohol,
or, failing that, try fingernail polish remover (acetone).
Last thing to do is adhere magnets on the back if you wish to
hang it on the fridge. Stick on magnets come in a variety of sizes
including a strip roll, from which you can cut short lengths.
Choose a thin size so that the board will sit as flush to the
refrigerator as possible for easy writing. Hook the pen clip over
the top and enjoy!
